FOUR GENERATIONS OF FURNITURE RESTORATION
To my knowledge, the name Christy and restoration
goes back at least four generations. My great
grandfather, grandfather and my father were all street traders in London,
mainly chair caning, china riveting and carpet and rug repairs, on site
and under street gas lamps at night.
In 1968 my grandfather and father taught me to cane
chairs for pleasure, and at the age of 13 I finished my first bentwood
chair. I was soon repairing chair frames, rush seating, and restoring
furniture.
I worked for and was taught by a master upholsterer
for five years, caning repairing and polishing chair frames tables and
all kinds of antiques, while continuing to study furniture restoration.
I then perfected my skills with a team of excellent
restorers specialising in all aspects of restoration.
Christy Antiques Restoration was established in
1989 where an extensive client base of antique dealers, auction houses,
cathedrals, antique collectors and private customers has built up throughout
the U.K., Europe and the U.S.A.
Today the family tradition continues with my son working alongside
his father.
